Radical Masters @ Spa: Qualifying Report

7th May 2010

Qualifying for the first round of the 2010 Shell Racing Solutions Radical Masters is now complete, setting the grids for both this afternoon’s Race 1, and tomorrow morning’s Race 2.

Ross Kaiser will start on pole for Race 1, setting a time of 2:17.666 in his SR8. Jamie Patterson lines up alongside, driving alone with Bell End Racing this weekend. Radical’s acclaimed SR8s have locked out the top twelve positions on the grid, but with a class-based championship, it’s still all to play for.

Radical Sweden’s brace of PR6s made sure they were at the front of the queue to leave the pits when the session started. Having a clearly track paid dividends for their driver Per Staff, recording a remarkable fastest time of2:26.014, the fastest PR6. As always, the Supersport class was incredibly hotly contested, with Speed Factory Racing’s Thomas Meidinger  just edging Giorgio Rosa for 14th place overall, both ahead of 2009 UK Cup Supersport Champion Colin Noble.

The second half of qualifying was for Race 2 grid positions, and Stuart Moseley placed the SR8 he shares with Derek Johnston on pole, with Patterson again in second position. Christian Droop, driving for Slim Racing this weekend, took third spot, ahead of Radical UAE’s Jordan Grogor and Bassam Kronfli.

If Staaf’s performance as the fastest four-cylinder Radical was impressive in the first session, his tenth-place in the seconds was even more so. This time, Colin Noble was the fastest Supersport class car, driving his new SR3 RS to a lap time of 2:27.653.

Race 1 takes place at 17:00 local time; more news to follow.
